The National Service Authority (NSA) has reassured thousands of frustrated service personnel that their long-awaited allowances will be paid by the close of this week.

The Authority attributed the delays to an ongoing verification process by the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited, which it said is necessary ‘to ensure accuracy and financial integrity.’

In a statement issued on February 17, 2026, and signed by Director-General Ruth Dela Seddoh, the NSA reaffirmed its commitment to the prompt payment of outstanding allowances owed to National Service Personnel, noting that the funds are critical to supporting young Ghanaians throughout their mandatory service year.

The statement clarified that the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department had advanced funds sufficient to cover two months of allowances last week.

However, the disbursement process has been temporarily stalled due to the necessary verification procedure.

NSS assures personnel delayed allowances and arrears will be paid, asks them to be patient

“Management wants to state categorically that the delay stems from an ongoing verification process by the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited, which must be completed to ensure accuracy and financial integrity before payments are finally effected,” the statement said.

The NSA acknowledged the patience and resilience demonstrated by service personnel during this period and emphasised that their contributions to the nation are deeply valued.

To provide assurance, the Authority set a firm deadline, stating that all verified and legitimate arrears will be cleared by the close of this week.

The NSA also pledged to maintain open lines of communication, promising timely updates through official channels.

The announcement comes as welcome news to service personnel across the country, many of whom have been grappling with the financial strain of delayed stipends, which serve as a crucial lifeline during their year of mandatory national service.
