The Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) is positioning itself to leverage the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to expand its operations across Africa.

Nana Agyemang Ansong, the Sales and Marketing Manager of CPC, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) ahead of the 2026 National Chocolate Day celebration.

Ansong said the company’s expansion strategy was focused on deepening its footprint on the African continent, using AfCFTA as a key enabler, noting that CPC already exports to Togo, Nigeria and Benin, with West Africa serving as a gateway to the broader African market.

He explained that CPC’s premium Golden Tree chocolate products had gained international recognition, with companies and individuals purchasing them for export to European markets.

Touching on the company’s 60th anniversary, he said CPC had enjoyed decades of contributing significantly to Ghana’s cocoa value chain, describing the milestone as a source of pride.

“It is exciting for CPC to be 60, and we hope to grow to become the Switzerland of Africa in chocolate production,” he said, recalling that the company started with semi-finished cocoa products before expanding into full-scale processing, manufacturing, and training a new generation of chocolatiers.

He expressed appreciation to Ghanaians for their continued support for locally produced chocolate, noting that consumers were increasingly able to distinguish between pure chocolate products such as Golden Tree and confectioneries produced by some foreign companies.

Ansong added that CPC was hopeful of scaling up production to meet rising demand for cocoa-based products, revealing that per capita chocolate consumption in Ghana had increased from 0.5 kilograms to one kilogram per annum, with a target of reaching two kilograms per capita.
