According to reports, the tragic incident occurred when a serpent slithered into Nwangene’s bed and bit her as she slept.

Nwangene’s close friend, Paschal Nworgu Tenor, has now shared screenshots of private WhatsApp chats between himself and the late singer, offering a glimpse into what happened in the minutes leading up to her death.

In the messages, Nwangene reached out to Paschal at about 9:43 am, informing him that she had been bitten by a snake.

Shocked by the message, Paschal initially questioned whether she was serious and asked her to confirm what had happened.

After realising the situation was real, he urged her to rush to the hospital immediately. Nwangene replied that she was already on her way to seek medical attention.

The conversation continued with Paschal asking how the snake had entered her house and advising her on what to do as she headed to the hospital.

In her final message to him, Nwangene promised to update him once she arrived at the hospital.

Paschal’s last response was advising her to tie the affected area tightly to slow down the spread of venom.

Sadly, the singer did not send any further messages. Doctors even administered antivenom to her, but she lost her life.

How did Ifunanya’s friend mourn her?

Paschal also shared a heartbreaking message recounting how he witnessed Nwangene struggle to breathe in her final moments.

“It was surreal, your skin still looked fresh, even as your lips and tongue had changed colour. I clung to a sliver of hope, praying and begging God to bring you back. I recited the Hail Mary countless times, pleading with you to return. You always listened before, but this time, you didn’t move at all,” he wrote.

He explained that he felt helpless and devastated watching her in her vulnerable state. Sadly, the venom had already spread, and Nwangene passed away in his arms.

“You gave your last breath in my arms after seven years and four days of knowing you. I have never been that helpless and devastated in my life. My consolation is knowing you’re in a better place, with the host of angels and saints. You lived a saintly life, impacting souls, and everyone spoke highly of you. You were a national treasure. I was proud of you. Goodbye, Saint Ifunanya. I just can’t deal with this,” he added, reflecting on their seven-year relationship as friends.
