I have nine children with eight women

Dear GhanaWeb,

I am a 48-year-old man. I have been married and divorced six times. I first got married at 29 and divorced three years later.

I dated, married again, divorced, and repeated this pattern over and over. The first three marriages were court marriages, and the divorces were very stressful, so the subsequent ones were only traditional.

I don’t love divorce. I want to have one home and raise all my children together, but all the women who left me claim I am either a womaniser or a cheat.

I have nine children in total. Seven were born within my marriages, and two were born outside marriage. In all, I have children with eight women.

I am seeing someone again and want to marry her and bring her home so I can have all my children under one roof. I also want one woman to cater for all of us because splitting the responsibilities is a drain on my finances.

The woman I’m currently dating has three children of her own and has just gotten pregnant for me. It was unexpected, and I am not ready for a tenth child.

I have been thinking that maybe my problem is not physical because I have seen men who cheat and do worse things than I do, yet they still have their wives, fewer children, and stable homes.

I don’t understand why I keep marrying, divorcing, and having children. I also do not want to remain unmarried because of old age; I need a woman to care for me when I get there. This is why I only date and marry women who are ten or more years younger than me.

My problem feels very serious, and sometimes I feel there is a root cause because I don’t believe it is entirely me. I date one woman until I marry her, but immediately after marriage, I get fed up and begin desiring and chasing other women until it becomes obvious.

All my partners suggested divorce because I don’t show remorse when they find out. I always fight and say mean things, which I only regret later. This has been my problem up till now.

I am having too many children, and I can’t handle it. Funnily enough, women are always interested in me. They are eager to marry me even after knowing my history. I don’t understand why.

I earn about GH¢9,000 monthly, but I pay over GH¢8,000 to my ‘baby mamas’ because they have all taken me to the Department of Social Welfare. What do I do?

FG/EB
