Aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awentami Paul Afoko, has called for unity and discipline within the party following the election of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

In a statement issued after the party’s internal polls, Afoko described the process as “vigorous, democratic and transparent,” noting that the outcome reflects the confidence of party delegates and the responsibility now placed on Dr Bawumia to lead the party into the next electoral cycle.

“The task before us is clear: to reorganize, reconnect with the Ghanaian people and present a credible pathway to national renewal,” Afoko said.

Afoko also paid tribute to the other aspirants who contested the flagbearership, namely Kennedy Agyapong, Bryan Acheampong, Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

He acknowledged their contributions to the contest, stating that their participation strengthened internal democracy and showcased the depth of leadership within the party.

According to him, the aspirants did not weaken the NPP by contesting but rather expanded it by engaging members and enriching internal debate.

Addressing party executives and grassroots members nationwide, Afoko emphasised the need for cohesion following the conclusion of the internal contest.

He noted that while differences are inevitable in a democratic organization, unity must prevail once collective decisions are made.

“What binds us our commitment to individual liberty, the rule of law and shared prosperity must always outweigh temporary disagreements,” he stressed.

Afoko signed off the message as “Yours in Unity and Service,” reaffirming his commitment as an aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party.
