Sudden Blackout Interrupts Rigathi Gachagua’s Speech at Ngemi Cia Watho Festival

A power cut cut short former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s speech during a cultural fest in Thika on Saturday, November 7.

The incident occurred during the second edition of the Ngemi Cia Watho Festival at Thika Greens Golf Resort as politicians, lawyers, entertainers and other notable guests gathered for a night out celebrating the Gikuyu culture, professionalism and community.

During his speech about President William Ruto’s political ties with those who have supported him in the past, the lights cut out.

The lights reportedly sparked and then completely cut out. Guests seemed surprised by this unexpected disruption. Many turned on their phone torches as they tried to figure out what had gone wrong.

This caused an unexpected disruption to the event which was supposed to be an enjoyable evening with music, cultural performances and political discussion.

The reason for the black out is currently unknown and it is unclear for how long the venue was left in the dark.

The event also received attention due to those in attendance. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna attended along with Gachagua as opposition leaders discussed working together ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The two were notable to attend together due to their differing political backgrounds. Sifuna attended the Senate session that resulted in Gachagua being impeached in October 2024.

Ngemi Cia Watho 2.0 was organised by the GEMA Watho Association. It brought together lawyers from the Mt Kenya region to network, celebrate their culture and discuss national issues.

Unlike typical networking events, it brought together legal professionals and cultural entertainment.

There was also a performance from Mugithi artiste KamaNu M’tuamwari.

Overall the festival brought together influential people from various fields to celebrate their culture and build up their networking and social connections.
