Ruto’s PS Omollo Showcases Suba South Transformation Through 17-km Road Upgrade to Bitumen Standards

Principal Secretary for Internal Security Dr Raymond Omollo has highlighted the development potential of Suba South, pointing to a major road improvement project that could reshape transportation, trade and tourism in the lakeside region.

In his latest remarks, Omollo challenged negative online comparisons that have portrayed some parts of Suba South as having roads resembling those in war-torn Yemen because of their rough and dusty conditions.

He argued that the region should instead be recognised for its economic potential, particularly its opportunities in fishing, tourism and waterfront commerce.

At the centre of the transformation is the upgrading of the 17-kilometre Tonga–Kisaku–Osiri Road to bitumen standards through the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).

The project is expected to improve connections between local communities and the Sori–Magunga–Sindo highway while linking the area to the proposed Lake Victoria Ring Road network through the Sindo–Nyandiwa section.

According to Omollo, improved road access will make it easier for fishermen and farmers to transport their products to markets, reduce logistical expenses and expand business opportunities.

The development is also expected to improve access to fish-landing beaches and trading centres, creating room for increased commercial activity and investment.

With Lake Victoria offering significant opportunities in the blue economy, better transport infrastructure could help attract tourism activities, support waterfront businesses and create sustainable income sources for residents.

Omollo also emphasised that reliable roads serve purposes beyond economic development, noting their importance in strengthening public safety and enabling security agencies to respond more effectively.

He said cooperation between local administrative structures and relevant government agencies remains important in supporting safer communities and improving access along transport corridors.
