In the final, the Flamingos delivered an impressive performance against Japan, who were hoping to secure another championship after previously winning the competition in 2014.

Nigeria took the lead in the 39th minute through Awawu Bashiru. The midfielder produced an effort from outside the penalty area, and Japan’s goalkeeper, Kou Kadowaki, failed to deal with the attempt as the ball crossed the goal line.

The Nigerian youngsters maintained their advantage until the half-time break and returned for the second half with another attacking opportunity.

Their positive start after the restart produced a second goal in the 47th minute. Oluebube Umejiaku found the back of the net to extend Nigeria’s lead to 2-0 and put the Flamingos in a strong position to win the trophy.
