Obi-Kwankwaso Rally Attacked Again, Several Injured, Campaign Vehicles Destroyed
According to a report by Vanguard on Saturday, November 7, 2026, supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) were attacked during a one-million-man march in Asaba, Delta State, leaving several people injured and campaign vehicles damaged.
The incident marked another disruption of the Obi-Kwankwaso movement in Delta State, following an earlier attack on its rally in Effurun. The suspected assailants reportedly wielded sticks, knives, machetes and other dangerous weapons before destroying vehicles displaying campaign materials and photographs of Obi, Kwankwaso and Delta North senatorial candidate Victor Ochei.
More than 30 campaign buses were allegedly damaged during the violence, according to Ochei, a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly. Videos from the scene reportedly showed some suspected attackers being assaulted by a counter-mob after they were apprehended.
Ochei called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to investigate the incident and ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible. He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using intimidation against political opponents.
“This is condemnable and unacceptable,” Ochei said, urging political parties to campaign on their achievements rather than resort to violence.
Favour Emerue, Delta Coordinator of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement and an organiser of the march, said the gathering had been peaceful before hoodlums disrupted it. He confirmed that injured participants were receiving medical treatment and called on security agencies to investigate the attack.
Emerue said organisers had informed the police about the march and met with the Commissioner of Police, who reportedly directed them against gathering at Inter-Bua Junction. He expressed concern over the alleged absence of police officers when the violence broke out.
The NDC described the attack as a criminal assault on democracy and urged the police, Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to protect political participants.
However, Delta APC spokesman Valentine Onojeghuo denied claims linking the party to the violence, insisting that the allegations were unsupported by evidence.
He urged the NDC to embrace peaceful, issue-based campaigns and resolve its internal disputes, while reiterating the APC’s commitment to non-violent political activities in the state.
