Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma Reveals Who Is to Blame for ANC’s Declining Support
Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has blamed President Cyril Ramaphosa for the African National Congress’s (ANC) declining electoral support, arguing that his leadership has contributed to the party losing a significant portion of its voters.
Reacting to the reported decline in the ANC’s support from approximately 61% to around 31%, Ngobese-Zuma said the figures should force the party to confront serious questions about its leadership and political direction.
She argued that Ramaphosa’s presidency had failed to maintain the confidence of many South Africans, suggesting that the ANC’s electoral difficulties were a reflection of dissatisfaction with the way the country was being led.
According to Ngobese-Zuma, the party should not attempt to present the declining figures in a positive light or use explanations to avoid confronting the underlying issues.
She believes that the leadership must take responsibility for the loss of support instead of finding ways to defend the situation.
Ngobese-Zuma also made serious allegations about the atmosphere surrounding criticism of the president, claiming that people who speak against him are made to feel intimidated.
βAnyone who dares say anything about him even as a President is instilled with fear, ask me I know,β she wrote.
She further argued that leaders cannot govern effectively by using fear, insisting that listening to the concerns and frustrations of the public should be an essential part of leadership.
Her criticism was not limited to the ANC’s current electoral performance. Ngobese-Zuma also warned that the party could suffer even greater losses in the 2029 general elections if it fails to address the concerns affecting its relationship with voters.
She suggested that the ANC’s leadership should take the warning seriously rather than dismissing criticism or attempting to shift attention away from the party’s challenges.
Her remarks come amid wider discussions about the ANC’s declining electoral support and the leadership questions facing the party under Ramaphosa.
Although her assessment reflects her political position, Ngobese-Zuma has made it clear that she considers the president responsible for the party’s difficulties.
She believes that rebuilding public confidence will require more than explanations about election results. In her view, the ANC must listen to the people, allow criticism and confront the leadership concerns contributing to its declining support.
