Attorney Nadine Meintjes Shot Dead Near Eldorado Park, Links to PA Councillor Emerge

The murder of South African attorney Nadine Meintjes has taken another concerning turn following revelations about her previous professional relationship with a controversial Patriotic Alliance (PA) councillor.

Meintjes was shot and killed alongside an unidentified male passenger in Klipspruit West, near Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, on Monday, 2 November 2026. The incident is being investigated as a double murder, with police working to establish the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting.

According to police reports, officers arrived at the scene and discovered a Toyota Urban Cruiser riddled with bullet holes. The vehicle had sustained several gunshot impacts, particularly around the driver’s door.

Both occupants were declared dead at the scene.

Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Mudau, a police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said investigations were under way to determine what led to the shooting and identify those responsible.

The killings have raised serious concerns, particularly because Meintjes was a practising attorney whose professional connections have now attracted attention following her death.

Following the murder, attention turned to Meintjes’ previous legal involvement with Juwairiya Kaldine, a Patriotic Alliance ward councillor representing a community in Eldorado Park.

According to reports, Meintjes previously represented Kaldine in a legal matter involving a protection order and allegations of harassment.

Kaldine reportedly confirmed that she had a professional relationship with the slain attorney.

The connection has attracted public interest because of the councillor’s controversial history and previous allegations involving individuals linked to criminal networks.

However, there is currently no established evidence connecting Kaldine to Meintjes’ killing, and the professional relationship should not be interpreted as proof of involvement in the crime.

Meintjes was admitted as an attorney of the High Court approximately three years ago. According to her professional profile, she began her legal career at BDK Attorneys before joining DVB Attorneys in November 2024.

Her death has also prompted tributes from members of the legal profession.

Spangenberg Attorneys Inc. expressed sadness over her passing, describing it as a tragic loss and highlighting the dangers faced by legal professionals.

The firm stated that her death was a painful reminder that no member of the legal profession should have to fear for their life while carrying out their professional responsibilities.

Kaldine has previously attracted public attention over allegations concerning her associations and comments involving prominent Patriotic Alliance figures.

In January 2024, a recording allegedly featuring the councillor surfaced, containing claims about PA secretary-general Chinelle Stevens and her late father, William ‘Red’ Stevens, who was reportedly associated with Cape Town’s underworld.

PA leader Gayton McKenzie responded to the controversy at the time, claiming that the recording had been doctored.

More recently, Kaldine’s name reportedly surfaced during parliamentary hearings examining allegations that a criminal network known as the Big Five had infiltrated state institutions.

The hearings also involved allegations contained in a handwritten letter purportedly written by convicted inmate Jermaine Prim.

The letter reportedly made accusations against McKenzie involving drugs and individuals associated with Western Cape gangs. McKenzie dismissed the allegations.

These controversies have brought renewed attention to Kaldine’s professional connection with Meintjes following the attorney’s murder.

For now, police investigations remain focused on establishing exactly what happened in Klipspruit West and identifying the people responsible for the shooting.

The fact that two people were killed inside the same vehicle has added to the seriousness of the investigation.

Authorities will need to establish whether the victims were specifically targeted and what circumstances preceded the attack.

The incident has also reignited conversations about the safety of legal professionals in South Africa.

Meintjes’ death comes amid concerns about violent attacks against people working within the country’s legal sector.

Another lawyer, 35-year-old Chinette Gallichan from Krugersdorp, was previously shot and killed in Johannesburg’s central business district. Her murder raised suspicions of a possible targeted attack after witnesses reportedly described how an assailant approached her at close range before fleeing.

As investigations into Meintjes’ killing continue, her family, colleagues and members of the legal community are left mourning her death.

Police are expected to continue gathering evidence to establish the motive behind the double murder and bring those responsible to justice.
