Ghana’s Foreign Minister Says Mother of Teen Killed in New York Is on Her Way to the US

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has given an update on the travel plans of Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi, the mother of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, who died in the Bronx, New York. According to the minister, Madam Gyamfi and her niece have now received their visas after a fast-tracked process, and they were expected to leave Ghana for the United States within hours.

The minister explained that the visa process was speeded up so the family could travel as soon as possible. He also thanked the US Embassy in Accra for helping to make the process smooth, and he acknowledged the support of US President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani. Ablakwa had shared those acknowledgements in a separate post on Saturday, October 31.

On the investigation into the teenager’s death, Ablakwa assured the family that the Ghanaian government is in close contact with US authorities. He said the government will not rest until justice is clearly done for Javits, stressing that officials are following the case closely and will keep the family informed.

The minister also sent his condolences to the family, saying no parent deserves to lose a 15-year-old child under such heartbreaking circumstances. His message of comfort comes as the family prepares to travel to the US to be closer to the investigation and to make arrangements for their son.

The update was reported by YEN on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. The death of Javits Frimpong has drawn attention both in Ghana and the US, with many calling for a thorough investigation. For now, the family’s immediate focus is on getting to New York, while the government says it will continue pushing for answers and justice.
