Former TV Anchor Regina Re and 3 Relatives Detained Over Mother’s Murder in Loresho

Former TV host and actress Regina Wambui Gitau, popularly known as Regina Re, has been detained alongside three family members over the tragic murder of her 86-year-old mother, Dorita Lasinder Macharia.

The elderly woman was found dead with severe neck injuries on October 30 at her home in Nairobi’s Loresho Estate. Shock and grief hit the quiet neighborhood as detectives stepped in to piece together the final moments of her life.

According to DCI homicide affidavits presented at the Kibera Law Courts, trouble began after Dorita confronted her granddaughter, Thandie Malaika Wanjiku Gitao, who was found in a compromising position with her boyfriend, Immanuel Waigwe Munyeki. Upset by the incident, Dorita ordered her out, leading to a heated argument before the suspect allegedly locked herself inside with the grandmother.

Shortly after, Thandie ran outside screaming that her grandmother was bleeding. Police later arrested Regina Re and her brother Antony Jimmy Macharia for allegedly attempting to clean up and tamper with the crime scene.

The court granted police 10 days to hold the four suspects at Gigiri Police Station as investigations into additional accomplices continue.
