Bien Questions Ruto’s Decision To Bring Bayern Vs Ajax Clash At Talanta Stadium, Demand This
Kenyan musician Bien-Aimé Baraza has questioned the government’s spending priorities in the construction of Talanta Sports City, arguing that more attention should be given to supporting local athletes and improving the country’s sports sector.
Speaking during an interview on Monday, November 2, Bien criticised the reported cost of constructing the facility, saying the money could have addressed challenges affecting Kenyan sportsmen and women.
He maintained that his concerns were not about building a modern stadium but the amount of money being invested in the project while local sporting activities continue to face financial difficulties.
According to Bien, the government should prioritise paying footballers their allowances, supporting athletes participating in international competitions and ensuring the local football league operates effectively.
He argued that the stadium could become part of President William Ruto’s legacy, but insisted that the country’s established sporting talent should not be neglected in the process.
The musician also cited the case of Kenyan skater Kevin Kiarie, who reportedly missed an opportunity to represent the country in an international competition due to inadequate financial and institutional support.
Bien further questioned the decision to bring international football giants Bayern Munich and Ajax to Kenya for the stadium’s official opening, arguing that local sporting talent deserved greater investment.
He wondered why billions of shillings were being discussed in connection with international football events while Kenyan athletes continued experiencing difficulties securing resources to compete.
However, Bien acknowledged that Talanta Stadium would remain an important public facility even after the current administration leaves office, noting that it could support football matches, concerts and other major events.
His remarks come amid growing public debate over the cost of the stadium and plans to host Bayern Munich and Ajax during its launch.
Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi had earlier dismissed claims that the government would use public funds to facilitate the international friendly, saying sponsors had committed to supporting the event.
Mwangi also clarified that the teams expected in Kenya would be their main squads rather than legends, adding that their global following would provide international exposure for the country.
