Learning every day: Raila Jr reacts to viral ‘Boss hii kazi ni ngumu’ moment at Jacaranda Rally
Raila Odinga Jr has lightheartedly addressed a viral video of him struggling to calm a rowdy crowd during an Orange Democratic Movement rally in Nairobi.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the Jacaranda Grounds. Thousands of party supporters had gathered for the grand finale of “Mwezi wa Baba”, a month-long programme designed to commemorate the first anniversary of the late opposition leader Raila Odinga’s passing.
As Raila Jr took the microphone, a section of restless youths began heckling. He opted for a candid response to pacify the crowd rather than ignoring the noise, looking at the disruptors and telling them, “Boss tuliaaaa, huoni hii kazi ni ngumu sana kwangu?”
The honest plea immediately caught the attention of Kenyans online. It sparked widespread discussions about the immense pressure of inheriting a massive political support base, as opposed to building one from scratch, and managing high-energy political crowds.
Today, November 1, 2026, Raila Jr took to his official social media channels to share his perspective on the encounter. In a post on X, he embraced the humour of the situation while acknowledging the steep learning curve he currently faces.
He wrote, “hii kazi ni ngumu Kila mutu relax, learning every day thank you ODM for giving me an opportunity once again at the historic Jakaranda (sic) grounds. Every moment is growth. Have a blessed day”.
The Jacaranda rally marked the end of an emotional and busy month for the Odinga family. Party leaders spent October coordinating various memorial events across the country to honour the founding leader, who died in October 2025.
Current party leader Oburu Oginga addressed the Saturday gathering via a phone call as he recovers from a recent illness. Consequently, the physical presence of the younger Odinga generation drew significant focus from the attendees.
