Gachagua Reveals What He Claims Happened to KSh7bn After Ruto Cancelled Uhuru’s Road Deal
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fresh attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of disrespecting former President Uhuru Kenyatta and allegedly using people who helped him ascend to power.
Speaking during a church service at PCEA Kamangu in Kiambu County, Gachagua defended Uhuru, insisting that the former president deserved respect after completing his two terms in office.
He warned against intimidating the Kikuyu community and criticised Ruto for repeatedly attacking his predecessor despite his retirement from active politics.
“Nataka niseme Rais Uhuru Kenyatta apewe heshima. Wachana na Uhuru Kenyatta, amestafu. Alifanya kazi yake, akapeana Kenya ikiwa imesimama,” Gachagua said.
He further accused Ruto of turning against those who supported his presidential bid, warning Kenyans that they could face similar treatment.
“Vile alinitumia mimi, atatumia wewe. Si hii mtu ya kutumia watu?” he said.
Gachagua also dragged National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah into the dispute, claiming that Ruto was only associating with him because he wanted to use him politically.
He alleged that the President had abandoned many of his former allies and warned Ichung’wah against assuming that their political relationship was based on genuine friendship.
“Amembaki na Kimani Ichung’wah. Wewe unafikiri ati hapo munakaa na yeye ni mtu mzuri? Hata wewe Ichung’wah, anakaa na wewe kwa sababu anakutumia, si ati anakupenda,” he stated.
The former Deputy President also claimed that Ruto had vowed to use his remaining years in office to weaken the Kikuyu community, adding that residents would not allow him to return to power.
Gachagua then shifted his attention to the Limuru–Mau Summit road project, accusing the government of mishandling the contract and pensioners’ money.
He claimed the road was initially planned under Uhuru’s administration at an estimated cost of KSh150 billion before Ruto’s government cancelled the arrangement with the French contractor.
According to Gachagua, KSh7 billion was paid during negotiations to terminate the contract, with KSh3.5 billion allegedly going to the French company and the remaining amount taken by Ruto.
He further alleged that the project’s cost later increased to KSh200 billion after it was awarded to two Chinese companies.
Gachagua named China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and Shandong Speed Engineering Company, claiming that KSh30 billion from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), meant for pensioners, had been committed to the project.
He also disputed Roads Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir’s explanation that the project could be delayed because of the conflict involving Iran and the United States.
Gachagua instead claimed that Chinese officials were reluctant to release funds because they considered the project politically risky ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He issued a warning to the two Chinese contractors, insisting that the money allegedly taken from workers’ retirement savings must be returned.
“Sasa mimi nataka niambie CRBC and Shandong, mwaka ujao mwezi wa kumi, hiyo pesa mmechukua ya wafanyakazi, ya pensioners, mutarudisha,” he declared.
