TSC Reveals How Much Chief Principals Will Earn Under New Teachers’ Salary Structure

Chief Principals have maintained their position as the highest-paid teachers in Kenya, with their monthly gross earnings potentially reaching Ksh269,077 under the revised Teachers Service Commission (TSC) salary structure.

The new pay arrangement took effect on July 1, 2026, following the implementation of the second phase of the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between TSC and teachers’ unions.

According to the revised salary scales, teachers serving in job grade D5 receive a basic monthly salary ranging from Ksh133,351 to Ksh164,977, depending on their salary points.

Chief Principals working in Nairobi are entitled to a monthly house allowance of Ksh50,000 and a commuter allowance of Ksh16,000. Those earning the highest basic salary therefore take home a gross monthly amount of Ksh230,977 before deductions.

However, their earnings can increase significantly when hardship allowances are included. Chief Principals deployed to designated hardship areas qualify for an additional Ksh38,100, pushing their potential gross monthly pay to Ksh269,077.

Other senior school administrators also benefit from the revised structure.

Senior Principals in job grade D4 earn basic salaries ranging between Ksh120,016 and Ksh148,480, while Principals in grade D3 receive between Ksh107,634 and Ksh131,405.

For house allowances, teachers in grades D3 and D4 receive Ksh45,000 in Nairobi, Ksh28,000 in the second cluster and Ksh21,000 in other areas.

Chief Principals receive Ksh50,000, Ksh35,000 and Ksh25,000 across the respective clusters.

Additionally, eligible teachers receive Ksh10,000 annually as leave allowance, while teachers with disabilities qualify for a Ksh20,000 disability guide allowance.

The revised agreement excludes intern teachers and applies to eligible teachers who were in service on July 1, 2026.
