“Sifuna Was Among Senators Who Were Paid To Impeach You” Wiper Senator Tells Gachagua, Details

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has reignited debate over the 2024 impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after alleging that senators were offered up to KSh10 million each to support his removal from office.

Speaking on Sunday, November 1, 2026, during a church service at PCEA Church Kamangu in Kikuyu Constituency, Kiambu County, Maanzo addressed Gachagua directly, claiming that financial inducements were used to influence senators during the impeachment proceedings.

The senator maintained that the process was accompanied by financial offers intended to secure support for the motion that eventually removed Gachagua from the country’s second-highest office.

Maanzo’s remarks are likely to attract renewed political attention, particularly as questions continue to emerge over the circumstances surrounding Gachagua’s removal in October 2024.

During his address, the Makueni senator also took aim at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, bringing his role in the impeachment proceedings into the political discussion.

Sifuna was among the senators involved in the parliamentary proceedings surrounding Gachagua’s removal. However, during the October 9, 2024 Senate sitting, he declined to second the motion seeking to establish a special committee to investigate the proposed impeachment.

The allegations made by Maanzo add to a growing list of claims by politicians suggesting that money changed hands during the process.

In July 2026, Maanzo publicly claimed that he had personally been approached with an offer of KSh10 million in exchange for voting in favour of Gachagua’s impeachment. He said he rejected the offer, alleging that it came with threats.

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed and Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, have also made remarks about money allegedly circulating during the impeachment process.

Gachagua, who now leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has previously called on the Judiciary to consider the bribery allegations as he continues to challenge aspects of his removal from office.
