Trevor Ombija Joins ODM Jacaranda Rally and Makes His Stand on Ruto’s Political Future Clear

Journalist Trevor Ombija attracted attention during the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) rally at Jacaranda Grounds on Saturday, October 31, after using his brief speaking opportunity to rally supporters behind President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.

Ombija, who is eyeing the Nyakach Constituency parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, was among those who addressed the gathering. However, despite being allocated only a few seconds at the microphone, he managed to introduce his political ambitions and make a direct appeal to the crowd to support Ruto.

During his address, the journalist asked those attending the rally to raise their hands and display the familiar Tutam signs associated with the President’s second-term campaign.

“ODM Nairobi, hoyee! Trevor Ombija, incoming MP for Nyakach. Please show by a sign of hands the Tutam signs for President William Ruto. Tutam, tutam! Thanks,” he said.

Ombija continued encouraging the crowd to keep their hands raised as he led the chants, even as his allocated speaking time came to an end.

He eventually handed over the microphone to the next speaker after using his brief moment to introduce himself to the ODM gathering and promote his political ambitions.

The appearance came as Ombija continued publicly associating himself with Ruto’s Tutam movement, which is campaigning for the President to secure another term in 2027.

Ombija first made his support for the President’s re-election campaign public in September 2026, when Ruto embarked on a development tour of the Nyanza region.

In a TikTok post shared on September 13, the journalist welcomed the Head of State to the region and openly declared his support for the Tutam movement.

“President Ruto’s Nyanza tour. President Ruto karibu Nyanza, tunakupenda. TUTAM siku zote. Jeshi ya rai,” read the message shared by Ombija.

On another occasion, the journalist praised Ruto over the ongoing construction of a major highway in his home area, saying the road had remained unattended for more than six decades.

According to Ombija, the poor condition of the road had previously caused serious transport difficulties, particularly during the Christmas holiday season when heavy traffic once forced him to spend the night on the route.

“For 60 years, no one constructed this highway. It is President Ruto who is doing it now,” he said.

He also recalled his personal experience with the traffic congestion, saying, “I remember sleeping on that road during the Christmas holiday because of heavy traffic.”

Ombija noted that the situation had changed following the commencement of construction works.

“But now it’s under construction,” he added.

The journalist subsequently appealed to Kenyans to give Ruto another opportunity to lead the country, making his position on the 2027 presidential contest clear.

“Let’s give Ruto another term, please,” he said.

His latest appearance at the Jacaranda rally brought together his parliamentary ambitions in Nyakach and his publicly expressed support for Ruto’s re-election campaign.
