22-Year-Old Mum Travels to Nairobi for Job, Ends Up Stranded With Her Two Children

A 22-year-old mother of two, Irene Karenda, is reportedly stranded in Kawangware, Dagoretti North, after a job opportunity that brought her from Vihiga County to Nairobi ended in distress.

Karenda travelled to the capital on Saturday after a man offered her employment, accommodation and support for her children. The arrangement reportedly included money for clothes and diapers, which would be deducted from her salary.

She began working on Monday, hoping the opportunity would help her provide for her family. However, her situation took an unexpected turn the following day when the man’s girlfriend allegedly objected to her presence in the household.

The girlfriend reportedly feared Karenda might take her partner and insisted she could handle the duties for which the young mother had been hired.

Her presence soon became a source of tension, with frequent disagreements reportedly arising over her children and the work she was expected to perform.

Unable to cope with the situation, Karenda reportedly sought comfort at a church in Kawangware. However, upon returning, she allegedly found herself unwelcome and was told to leave with her children.

With nowhere to turn, the young mother reportedly sought permission to spend the night in a pickup truck under the watch of a Maasai night guard.

Karenda’s struggles began long before her arrival in Nairobi. She was reportedly chased away from her father’s home before later losing the father of her first child.

She subsequently married another man who accepted her firstborn, and the couple welcomed a second child together. However, their relationship reportedly deteriorated after they relocated to Vihiga County, with the man eventually sending her away.

The latest ordeal has left Karenda facing uncertainty as she struggles to find shelter and stability for her two children in Nairobi.

Her situation highlights the challenges faced by vulnerable mothers seeking employment and a fresh start, only to find themselves without the support they had hoped for.
