2027: Tinubu Makes Fresh Declaration on Re-Election Bid After Performing Umrah in Makkah

According to a report by The Nation on Friday, October 30, 2026, President Bola Tinubu has placed his ambition to secure another term in office in 2027 in the hands of Allah, saying the outcome of the presidential election would depend on divine will.

Tinubu made the declaration in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, shortly after completing the Umrah pilgrimage. He was responding to questions about his decision to return to the Holy Land ahead of another election, having undertaken a similar spiritual journey before the 2023 presidential poll.

The President said his re-election ambition was tied to his commitment to serving Nigerians and his belief that leadership ultimately rests with God. “I believe that Allah’s wish in His will must prevail. And there’s no other God but Allah,” he said.

Beyond his political ambition, Tinubu said he used the pilgrimage to seek divine guidance for Nigeria, particularly on national unity, peace, security and development. He urged citizens to regard the country’s diverse backgrounds as an advantage and work towards shared national objectives.

Several governors and political leaders who joined the President in Makkah also prayed for a peaceful and credible 2027 general election. Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum said the country needed lasting peace and unity, while Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani identified insecurity as a major concern requiring cooperation between citizens and security agencies.

Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator Abdulaziz Yari said placing the country’s affairs before Allah was important, but maintained that political leaders seeking public support must also present their records and convince voters through the democratic process.

Presidential aide Tunde Rahman disclosed that Tinubu had maintained the practice of performing Umrah over several years and regularly used the opportunity to pray for himself and Nigeria. He said the delegation also sought divine intervention for a successful, free and fair election in 2027.

Tinubu arrived in Saudi Arabia on Thursday night and is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing his spiritual activities.
