Super Eagles striker sacrifices an opportunity to increase goal tally
According to a post on Le Marca Sports official X account on Friday October 30, 2026, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has sacrificed an opportunity to increase his goalscoring tally for Galatasaray after handing a penalty to teammate Rafael Leão during their 4-0 victory over Konyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig on Friday.
The Nigerian international was already on the scoresheet after opening the scoring in the 12th minute at the Medaş Konya Büyükşehir Stadium.
He rose highest to head home a free-kick delivery from Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Sara.
Yunus Akgün doubled Galatasaray’s advantage in the 28th minute before Russian midfielder Aleksey Batrakov extended the lead in the 49th minute to put the visitors firmly in control.
Galatasaray were subsequently awarded a penalty in the 55th minute after Leão was brought down inside the penalty area by Konyaspor defender Rayyan Baniya.
Following a VAR review, referee Cihan Aydın pointed to the spot.
With an opportunity to register another goal and improve his impressive scoring record, Osimhen opted to hand the responsibility to Leão, allowing the Portuguese forward to take the spot-kick.
Leão made no mistake from 12 yards (10.97 m), sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to complete Galatasaray’s 4-0 victory and register his first goal since joining the Turkish champions.
Osimhen’s selfless gesture provided a memorable moment for his teammate, who had been waiting to open his goalscoring account for the Istanbul giants.
The Nigerian striker, meanwhile, took his league tally to nine goals this season, maintaining his impressive form as Galatasaray continue their pursuit of another Süper Lig title.
The victory also strengthened Galatasaray’s position at the top of the league table, with the defending champions continuing their impressive run of results.
