Okorocha Reacts to Court Victory, Says He Is ‘Not Happy’ Despite Defeating Uzodinma
Former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has said his greatest satisfaction following the recent court judgment on the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary in Imo West is not that he has been recognised as the winner, but that the ruling has helped address allegations previously made against him.
According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Okorocha made the remarks while reacting to the judgment delivered by Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The court directed Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma to stop presenting himself as the APC candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, scheduled for January 16.
In its decision, the court held that the evidence before it showed that Okorocha secured the highest number of votes during the party’s senatorial primary. It consequently ordered the APC to recognise him as the rightful winner of the exercise and submit his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its candidate for the constituency.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the former governor disclosed that he had received numerous congratulatory messages from supporters and other Nigerians following the judgment. However, he explained that the outcome meant much more to him than the political advantage of securing the party’s ticket.
Okorocha said he was particularly pleased that the court’s intervention had helped correct what he described as misleading impressions and allegations surrounding the primary election.
He stated that although many people had contacted him to celebrate the ruling, his personal satisfaction came from the fact that the issues raised against him had finally been addressed through the judicial process.
The former governor also revisited reports alleging that he had been arrested in connection with accusations of forgery involving documents related to the APC primary.
He rejected the claims, describing the reports as inaccurate and suggesting that people opposed to his political interests had contributed to the controversy.
Okorocha further criticised the manner in which some media organisations handled the allegations. He argued that more careful investigation and responsible reporting could have prevented misleading information from spreading among members of the public.
He particularly denied ever being arrested or taken into police custody over the matter, insisting that the claims had no basis. According to him, the court’s decision had provided an opportunity to challenge the allegations and put the controversy into proper perspective.
Emphasising his position, Okorocha said: “I wasn’t arrested and never was I arrested; this court victory today has put that to rest somehow.”
