What MultiChoice Kenya Has Done to Win Back Millions of Lost Viewers
MultiChoice Kenya is introducing a new DStv subscription structure with lower prices and fewer package options as it seeks to attract customers back and compete with digital streaming platforms.
The changes, scheduled to take effect on November 5, 2026, will reduce the number of packages from six to four.
According to the report, monthly subscriptions will start at KSh750, while the DStv Ultimate package will drop from KSh11,700 to KSh7,300.
One of the biggest changes is the introduction of a standalone DStv Sports package costing KSh3,000 per month.
The package is designed for viewers who mainly want live sports, including major European football competitions, without paying for a broader entertainment bundle.
The new lineup will also include DStv Starter at KSh750 per month, offering local programming and general entertainment, and DStv Select at KSh1,500, with a wider selection of family content, films and drama series.
At the premium level, DStv Ultimate will offer a broader range of entertainment and sports channels, including coverage of motorsport, tennis and golf.
The changes come as MultiChoice faces growing competition from streaming services and pressure from customers seeking more affordable television options. The report cites a decline in the company’s market share from 60.2 per cent to 41.3 per cent.
By lowering prices and separating sports content into its own package, the company appears to be giving customers more flexibility to choose subscriptions that suit their budgets and viewing habits.
