Items prohibited inside Talanta Stadium
Several items will not be allowed inside Talanta Stadium as preparations continue for the official opening of the newly constructed facility, which is scheduled to host a major European football friendly in January 2027.
President William Ruto earlier announced that German football giants FC Bayern Munich and Dutch club AFC Ajax will play a historic match to officially launch the stadium, formerly known as Talanta Stadium, on January 5, 2027. The announcement has drawn attention to the venue and the rules guests will be expected to follow when attending events.
“Come fifth January 2027, we will open this stadium with a historic match between two giants of European football, FC Bayern Munich of Germany and AFC Ajax of Amsterdam,” Ruto said on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
With the stadium set to host the high-profile fixture, visitors will need to familiarise themselves with the items they cannot bring into the venue. The stadium has outlined restrictions aimed at promoting the safety and enjoyment of all guests, while giving security officers the right to prohibit other items they consider unsafe.
Backpacks, duffle bags, briefcases and hard-sided cases are prohibited, alongside outside food and beverages. Glass containers, cans, aluminium bottles, alcohol, coolers, ice chests and thermoses are also not permitted inside the venue.
Fans will also be barred from bringing vuvuzelas, air horns, whistles, drums and other noise-making devices. Laser pointers, drones, remote-controlled aircraft and balloons are among the other restricted items.
Professional cameras with detachable lenses longer than six inches, video recording equipment and GoPros with extension poles are also prohibited. Weapons of any kind, including pocket knives, pepper spray and batons, will not be allowed, alongside fireworks, flares, smoke devices and sparklers.
Banners, flags and signs larger than A3 size, measuring 29.7cm by 42cm, are also restricted. Political, commercial and offensive signage will not be allowed inside the stadium.
Other prohibited items include skateboards, scooters, hoverboards and bicycles inside the stadium bowl. Animals are not permitted, except certified service animals. Confetti, glitter, silly string, frisbees, beach balls and inflatable items are also on the list.
Strollers are prohibited, although visitors can check with Guest Services about storage. Umbrellas longer than 30cm when collapsed are also not allowed.
Visitors who arrive with restricted belongings can use lockers located outside Gate A and Gate C. The storage service costs Ksh200 per item.
The stadium has warned that it will not be responsible for items left unattended, making it important for guests to plan and check the restrictions before arriving.
