Sifuna Receives A Chilling Message From ODM, Pleads With Him Ahead Of 2027 Elections

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has urged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to join the broad-based government and support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in the 2027 General Election amid growing divisions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Barasa, who chairs ODM in Kakamega County, claimed that people surrounding Sifuna were misleading him and urged the senator to reconsider his political position.

Addressing Sifuna directly, Barasa said the senator should join their camp, insisting that ODM wanted Ruto to win the 2027 presidential election.

“Sifuna, join us in the broad-based government because those around you are playing you. Do not be a junior partner. We still love you, and we can support you in the future, but in 2027, we want Ruto,” Barasa stated.

His remarks highlight the growing differences within ODM over whether the party should continue cooperating with Ruto’s administration or pursue an independent political path.

The disagreement has intensified following Sifuna’s removal as ODM Secretary-General, a development that exposed deeper divisions over the party’s leadership and political direction.

Sifuna has since been associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has attracted politicians advocating for an alternative approach.

Barasa maintained that he still supported Sifuna but insisted that Ruto remained his preferred presidential candidate in 2027.

The unfolding divisions could shape ODM’s alliances and political strategy ahead of the next general election.
