Geoffrey Mosiria: Nairobi Needs a Working Governor, Not a Politician Focused on Re-election
Geoffrey Mosiria has outlined his vision for Nairobi County, emphasising service delivery, accountability and improved management of public resources as he seeks to present himself as a leader focused on addressing the city’s challenges.
In his statement, Mosiria declared that Nairobi needs a governor committed to working for residents rather than prioritising political interests. He used the phrase “Nairobi is not ready for a pollution governor” to underscore his argument that the capital requires practical leadership focused on improving the lives of its people.
Mosiria also spoke about his engagement with Ndindi Nyoro, the People’s Party leader, whom he said he approached to understand how the politician used Constituency Development Fund (CDF) resources to support road construction and education projects while keeping school fees affordable.
According to Mosiria, Nyoro explained that despite receiving an allocation similar to that of other constituencies, he chose to prioritise development and invest in the future of his constituents. Mosiria described the experience as an example of putting public needs ahead of personal interests.
Turning to his own ambitions for Nairobi, Mosiria said residents should expect a leader focused on fixing the city rather than immediately planning for a second term. He added that his administration would seek to implement useful plans developed by the four former governors, although he did not specify which projects he intends to prioritise.
Mosiria further pledged to give county employees room to exercise their skills, creativity and innovation. He said workers who perform well should be recognised and promoted instead of being discouraged for demonstrating their abilities.
On governance, he promised constructive engagement with the national government while maintaining oversight and advocating for the welfare of county employees and Nairobi residents.
He also addressed public commentary surrounding his role at City Hall, saying he would speak openly when services were not working as expected.
His message places service delivery, employee welfare and responsible use of public resources at the centre of his proposed leadership agenda. Whether these commitments translate into measurable improvements would depend on the policies, resources and implementation plans presented to residents.
