Gachagua and Kalonzo Agree to Unite Behind One Presidential Candidate Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced that he held extensive consultations with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as opposition leaders consider uniting behind one presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In his statement, Gachagua described Kalonzo as his cousin and said they had agreed on the need to make sacrifices to ensure that the opposition settles on a single candidate to lead their political movement.

“I have this morning held extensive consultations with my cousin, Kalonzo Musyoka.

We are all in agreement that we shall make whatever sacrifices necessary to settle on one presidential candidate to be the captain of our struggle,” Gachagua stated.

The remarks highlight the ongoing discussions among opposition leaders about the importance of unity as they prepare for the next general election.

Agreeing on one presidential candidate could be a significant step in coordinating their political efforts and avoiding divisions within their ranks.

However, selecting a single candidate may require negotiations among leaders with their own political ambitions, support bases and interests.

Gachagua’s statement signals a willingness to consider compromises in pursuit of a common political goal.

Kalonzo’s position and the involvement of other opposition leaders will be important in determining how the proposed unity arrangement takes shape.

As the 2027 elections approach, Kenyans will be watching closely to see whether the opposition can reach a consensus on its presidential candidate and establish a coordinated strategy for the contest.
