Eugene Wamalwa Visits Gachagua at Wamunyoro, Donates Bull as Opposition Unity Talks Intensify
Democratic Action Party of Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa has visited former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County, adding to a series of high-profile political engagements among opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Wamalwa made the visit on Monday, October 26, shortly after Gachagua held talks with Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka at the same residence.
During his visit, the former Defence Cabinet Secretary donated a bull to Gachagua, in a gesture that brought together leaders from different political formations at a time when opposition politicians are intensifying consultations over their next political move.
Gachagua welcomed Wamalwa to Wamunyoro, describing the visit as part of the continuing consultations among leaders seeking to chart the country’s political future.
“Karibu Wamunyoro, residence of Omwami Eugene Wamalwa. We continue to consult,” Gachagua stated in a message shared on social media.
The visit came amid growing discussions about the need for opposition leaders to work together and establish a common political strategy to challenge President William Ruto in the August 2027 General Election.
Wamalwa’s arrival followed a meeting between Gachagua and Kalonzo, during which the two leaders discussed opposition unity and the possibility of forming the country’s next administration.
After the meeting, Gachagua said the discussions had focused on what he described as the liberation of the country and the formation of the sixth administration.
He also indicated that the leaders were prepared to make sacrifices to ensure the opposition settles on a single presidential candidate.
According to Gachagua, consultations would continue as political leaders explore ways of building a united front ahead of the next election.
The meeting with Kalonzo was significant because both leaders are influential figures within the opposition, with their cooperation potentially shaping negotiations over the coalition’s leadership and electoral strategy.
Wamalwa’s visit also comes days after Gachagua hosted Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement at his Wamunyoro residence.
That meeting brought together figures from different political backgrounds and sparked further discussion about possible cooperation among opposition groups.
Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party, has continued engaging political leaders as parties and movements position themselves for the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, Wamalwa’s DAP-K remains among the political formations participating in wider opposition discussions.
However, despite the increasing number of meetings, questions remain over how the opposition will settle on its presidential candidate and reconcile the interests of its different political groups.
The latest engagements underline the continuing efforts to build political alliances ahead of the election.
Whether these consultations will produce a formal coalition agreement and a jointly endorsed presidential candidate remains to be seen.
