We Have Evidence That Senator, Gov, Minister Are Sponsoring Terrorism Against Your Country —Olawunmi

Retired Commodore Kunle Olawunmi, a former Commandant of the Defence Intelligence College and former Deputy Director of Defence Administration at Defence Headquarters, has alleged that some government officials are sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria. Olawunmi made the allegation during an interview on the Edmund Obilo podcast, aired on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

During the conversation, the interviewer asked whether elected and appointed public officials who were entrusted with the welfare and security of Nigerians could become sources of instability in the country they were meant to protect. “The person elected to serve the welfare and security of his or her people accepts to become a source of instability to the land he’s meant to protect. Is that a point you are making?” the interviewer asked.

Responding, Olawunmi agreed with the proposition and linked it to the problem of terrorism in Nigeria, alleging that some government officials were involved in sponsoring terrorist activities. “Absolutely. Absolutely. And that’s what is going on. I mean, you see the issue of terrorism in Nigeria. If you want us to go there, who are the people sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria? They are your officials,” he said.

The retired naval officer questioned how individuals entrusted with public responsibilities could allegedly turn against the citizens they were expected to protect. “So how did they get to that point that they turn rogue against their citizen? Can you imagine that you are a senator, you are a governor, you are a minister, and we have evidence, overwhelming evidence, that you are sponsoring terrorism against your country. How do you imagine that?” Olawunmi asked.

During the interview, the host sought clarification on whether the alleged sponsorship of terrorism by government officials was known to the state. When the interviewer stated, “Government officials sponsoring terrorism against Nigeria. And the state is aware,” Olawunmi answered in the affirmative.

The interviewer subsequently referred to Olawunmi’s experience with the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), asking whether his background in defence intelligence informed his assertions. “I do,” Olawunmi replied when asked whether he had worked with the agency.

The host then questioned why the government had allegedly failed to act on the reports despite the purported availability of evidence implicating public officials in terrorism sponsorship. Olawunmi attributed the alleged inaction to political considerations. “Why is the state not acting on the report? Politics. That’s the only answer I can give you because it doesn’t make any sense. But that just says politics,” he said.
