Today’s Headlines: APC Presidential Campaign Kicks Off in Kaduna; Seven Die in Multiple Road Crashes
Thousands of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters gathered at Ranchers Bees Stadium in Kaduna for the flag-off of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign. Ministers, governors and other dignitaries were present, while musicians entertained attendees ahead of Tinubu’s arrival.
The rally marked the launch of the APC’s presidential campaign activities for the 2027 general elections, with supporters and party leaders assembled at the venue to participate in the event.
Seven people were killed and 11 others injured in a multiple-vehicle crash involving a trailer, two cars and five motorcycles at Tashan Magariya Junction along the Gombe-Billiri Road in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State. The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and was reportedly caused by brake failure, which made the trailer driver lose control and collide with the other vehicles.
The Federal Road Safety Corps said 25 people were involved in the crash, including four adult males, two male children and one female child who died. The injured victims, comprising adults and children, were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Kumo for medical attention, while the vehicles were handed over to the police for further action.
Former presidential aide Laolu Akande recounted how President Bola Tinubu was allegedly marginalised and humiliated within the All Progressives Congress during the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari, despite his contributions to Buhari’s emergence as president in 2015. Speaking on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast, Akande said Tinubu remained in the party and patiently pursued his political ambition until he became president in 2023.
Akande urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to set aside his personal ambition and make sacrifices to unite opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 general election. He attributed the opposition’s divisions partly to ego, arguing that Atiku should take the initiative to build a united front against Tinubu.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has said Nigerians who fail to recognise the progress made under President Bola Tinubu’s administration need what she described as “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses”. She made the remark on Friday during the inauguration of the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots group mobilising support for her husband’s re-election in 2027. She cited improvements in Nigerian airports as evidence of progress.
Mrs Tinubu also expressed hope that she would leave the Presidential Villa in 2031 and enjoy a better Nigeria in her 70s. She subsequently commissioned the movement’s Abuja headquarters, declaring support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
