Details Of James Orengo’s Meeting With LDP Delegates Led By Chirau Ali Mwakwere
Governor James Orengo has met Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) delegates in Kwale County, where discussions centred on historical land injustices, economic marginalisation and the challenges facing young people along the Coast.
The meeting, held on Saturday, October 24, was hosted by veteran politician Chirau Ali Mwakwere, bringing together party delegates to discuss regional concerns and Kenya’s political direction.
During engagement, Orengo highlighted longstanding grievances affecting coastal communities, particularly disputes over land ownership and the limited economic opportunities available to local residents.
He called for a fairer system in which communities benefit directly from the natural resources found in their areas.
The governor also emphasised the importance of strengthening devolution, arguing that local populations should have a greater say in decisions affecting their livelihoods.
Youth unemployment was another key issue raised during the meeting, with Orengo pointing to the need for approaches that create opportunities and address economic exclusion.
The governor also used the gathering to stress the importance of cooperation among opposition leaders.
He maintained that political unity would be necessary to address national challenges and safeguard constitutional principles.
A significant part of his address focused on the proposed Election Results Transmission Bill, which he strongly opposed.
Orengo warned that if President William Ruto assented to or proceeded with the legislation, he would personally challenge it in court.
The governor, who is an Advocate of the High Court, said he was prepared to file a petition against the measure, maintaining that electoral processes must respect the sovereign will of Kenyans.
Kwale meeting offered LDP delegates an opportunity to discuss issues affecting their communities while considering the party’s place in the broader opposition movement.
