Anne Waiguru Urges Mt. Kenya Voters to Reject Opposition Rhetoric and Back Ruto in 2027
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has cautioned the Mt. Kenya electorate against being swayed by opposition political waves, warning that defecting to the opposition in the 2027 General Election could marginalize the region and strip it of key national development projects.
Speaking on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Kabaru Ward in Nyeri County during a empowerment event for the Warazo Jet Water Irrigation Project, Waiguru urged residents to prioritize track records over anti-government sentiment. Accompanied by host Nyeri County Woman Representative Rahab Mukami, Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari, and local MCAs, Waiguru noted that electoral dynamics heavily favor President William Ruto’s re-election bid.
”Let’s go slow; let’s leave anger out of the elections. This time, there will be no voting on political party lines—vote leaders based on their track record,” Waiguru stated. “Mt. Kenya will not have a presidential candidate, and we are likely to see voter apathy based on previous trends. You will not be punishing Ruto by walking out of government; it is you who will suffer. Let’s ignore propaganda and distinguish between comedy and facts.”
Mukami echoed Waiguru’s calls for economic focus, stating that Nyeri residents prefer sustainable development projects over handouts. Upon completion, the stalled Warazo Jet Water Irrigation Project is slated to serve over 2,000 households and agricultural enterprises across Kabaru Ward.
