KNEC Lists Rules KCSE Candidates Must Follow Ahead of 2026 National Examinations

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has outlined a series of rules and regulations that candidates sitting the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations must follow before, during and after their examination papers.

The guidelines aim to promote discipline, fairness and order while ensuring that all candidates observe the required examination procedures.

According to the instructions, candidates are required to arrive at their examination centres early enough to undergo security checks before entering the examination rooms.

KNEC has directed candidates to present themselves for searching outside the examination room and ensure they are seated at their desks at least 15 minutes before the scheduled commencement of each paper.

The morning examination session is scheduled to begin at 8 am, while afternoon papers start at 2 pm, depending on the official timetable.

Candidates have also been warned against arriving late, with the council requiring those who report after the scheduled time to provide satisfactory explanations to the examination supervisor.

However, candidates arriving more than 30 minutes after the examination has started may only be allowed to sit the paper under exceptional circumstances.

“A candidate who arrives late will be required to give a satisfactory reason to the Supervisor. Only in exceptional circumstances will a paper be given to any candidate who is more than half an hour late,” KNEC stated in its guidelines.

Upon receiving their question papers, candidates are required to confirm that they have been issued with the correct papers for their registered subjects.

They must also notify the supervisor immediately if any question paper is incomplete or if essential examination materials needed to answer a question are missing.

The council has emphasised the importance of following all instructions provided by examination officials to avoid unnecessary complications during the national examinations.

Candidates are therefore encouraged to familiarise themselves with the examination regulations and prepare adequately ahead of the papers.

With the 2026 KCSE examinations approaching, school administrators and teachers are expected to guide learners on the importance of punctuality, discipline and strict adherence to examination procedures.

KNEC’s guidelines serve as a reminder that candidates must remain alert and responsible throughout the examination period to ensure a smooth and credible assessment process.
