In The Past, When They Give Chloroquine To A Patient, They Gave Them Piriton -Fanwo On BAT Reforms

Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, has also likened Nigeria’s economy to cancer, saying the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu are necessary to address long-standing structural problems despite the difficulties they have caused.

In an interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT on Monday, October 19, 2026, Fanwo said the reforms had brought economic challenges for Nigerians but maintained that the government was introducing measures to cushion their effects.

Fanwo said the interventions included the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and efforts to make transportation more affordable. He explained that these measures were aimed at easing the burden on Nigerians while the government worked towards improving the economy.

The Kogi State commissioner compared the government’s interventions to the use of Piriton alongside chloroquine in the past to reduce discomfort associated with malaria treatment. He said the support measures were intended to ease the hardship Nigerians were experiencing as a result of the economic reforms.

Fanwo expressed optimism that the reforms would help restore Nigeria’s economic fortunes in the coming years. He added that the Federal Government and state governments were putting measures in place to cushion the effects of the reforms while working towards economic recovery.

In his words, “Even in the olden days when they used chloroquine for malaria patients, they gave them piriton so that it would cushion the effect of discomforts from chloroquine.”
