Real Madrid Exchanging Final Paperwork With Superstar’s Agent After Renewal Agreement

According to a report by Madrid Universal on Monday October 19, 2026, Real Madrid are reportedly completing the final paperwork required to extend Thibaut Courtois’ contract, with transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano revealing that only the goalkeeper’s signature remains outstanding.

The Spanish giants have recently prioritised securing the long-term futures of their key players. Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler have reached renewal agreements, while Vinicius Junior extended his contract during the summer.

Courtois has now reached a verbal agreement with the club over a one-year extension, which would keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2028.

According to Romano, representatives of the Belgian goalkeeper and Real Madrid are exchanging the necessary documents to finalise the agreement. The official signing is reportedly the remaining step before the deal becomes complete.

Courtois joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2018 and has established himself as one of the club’s most influential players. The 34-year-old has made 344 appearances across all competitions, recording 131 clean sheets.

During his spell in Madrid, the experienced goalkeeper has won three La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies, alongside several other honours.

Despite experiencing injury problems in recent seasons, Courtois continues to demonstrate his quality and remains among Europe’s leading goalkeepers. His consistent performances have convinced the club that he can still contribute significantly at the highest level.

The decision to extend his contract therefore reflects Madrid’s confidence in his abilities, even as preparations for a long-term successor potentially continue behind the scenes.

Courtois has featured in all 11 of Real Madrid’s matches this season, although he has managed just two clean sheets while conceding 13 goals.
