Tears Flow as Bomet Teen Vows to Care for Siblings After Losing Both Parents

A Form Four student moved mourners to tears after delivering an emotional tribute to his parents, Joseph Kipkorir Kirui, 46, and Viola Cherotich Kirui, 42, who died under mysterious circumstances in Bomet County.

The couple was laid to rest on Wednesday, October 14, in Sekerot village, Nyongores Ward, Chepalungu Sub-County, in a ceremony attended by relatives, friends, local residents and county leaders.

The most heartbreaking moment came when the couple’s firstborn son stepped forward to address the gathering on behalf of his siblings. Despite the pain of losing both parents, the teenager managed to deliver a moving farewell message that left many mourners struggling to contain their emotions.

In his tribute, the student pledged to take care of his younger siblings, declaring, “Nitachunga ndugu zangu,” which translates to “I will take care of my siblings.”

His promise touched those gathered at the burial, highlighting the heavy responsibility he now faces following the devastating loss of both parents.

Joseph, popularly known in the community as “Daktari,” and his wife Viola reportedly died on October 4, leaving their family and the wider community in shock.

The circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear, with the family calling for thorough investigations to establish what happened.

Although the exact cause of death had not been publicly confirmed by the time of the burial, the incident has raised questions among relatives and neighbours who are seeking answers.

Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok attended the burial alongside residents, joining the community in mourning the couple and supporting the bereaved family.
