Billionaire Jimi Wanjigi Reacts as EPRA Hikes Fuel Prices
Billionaire businessman and Safina Party leader Jimi Wanjigi has sharply criticized the government following the latest fuel price hike announced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
In a statement posted on his official X account on October 14, 2026, Wanjigi termed the increase as criminal and an attack on struggling Kenyans.
“Stop the criminal fuel hikes!” he captioned a graphic quoting his full statement.
“The latest fuel price hike is criminal. This is a direct attack on the pockets of ordinary Kenyans who are already struggling to survive. The government must urgently review the taxes and levies driving fuel costs immediately to bring down fuel costs. Kenyans deserve relief, not more punishment,” Wanjigi said.
EPRA announced new pump prices on Tuesday night, raising the cost of Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene across the country, citing increased landed costs and global crude prices.
The move has sparked public outrage, with motorists and businesses warning of a ripple effect on transport, food prices and cost of living.
Wanjigi, who has been a vocal critic of President William Ruto’s economic policies, said the government should focus on reducing taxes and levies loaded on fuel instead of continuously burdening citizens.
He argued that fuel is a key driver of the economy and any increase directly hurts mama mboga, boda boda riders and low-income earners who are already grappling with high inflation.
Wanjigi called on the government to act urgently to cushion Kenyans, saying they deserve relief not punishment at a time when many households can barely afford basic commodities.
