ODM Issues Fresh Warning to Kenyans Over Oburu Oginga’s Health as Death Rumours Spread

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has issued a fresh warning to Kenyans spreading information about the health of its leader, Oburu Oginga.

The party expressed concern over rumours circulating on social media, with some people claiming that the veteran politician had died.

ODM has urged the public to stop sharing unverified reports and allow the senator time to recover.

In a statement released on Tuesday, October 13, ODM Director of Communications Phillip Etale said Oburu’s family was deeply troubled by the continued spread of false information about his health.

He explained that the rumours had caused distress to the family and the party.

Etale reminded Kenyans that freedom of expression comes with a responsibility to respect other people and avoid spreading misleading information.

The party also clarified that Oburu was taking time to rest after undergoing several weeks of treatment in London and Kenya.

Although ODM did not disclose the illness he had been receiving treatment for, it maintained that he needed enough time to recover before returning to his normal duties.

The party appealed to Kenyans to give him space as he regains his strength.

Questions about Oburu’s health increased after he missed several public events in recent weeks.

One of the notable gatherings was the handover ceremony of the Raila Odinga Mausoleum at his father’s home in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County, on October 7.

His absence attracted attention and fuelled speculation about his condition.

However, the Oburu Odinga Secretariat had earlier dismissed reports claiming that the Siaya senator had died.

The secretariat assured Kenyans that he was safe and in good spirits.

During the mausoleum handover ceremony, his son, Jaoko Oburu, read a statement confirming that his father was taking a forced rest on the advice of his doctors.

According to the statement, Oburu hopes to resume active public life after consulting his medical team. ODM has urged Kenyans to respect his privacy and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.
