Natembeya Answers Ruto With a Whisky Joke Days After Ruto Took On Sifuna Over Alcohol

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has answered President William Ruto in a way few people expected. He posted a mock whisky advert on Facebook and the internet has not stopped talking about it.

The image shows a bottle and a black and gold gift box. Both carry the name John Natembeya Premium Whisky. A crown sits above the name and a mountain design sits below it.

The slogan reads Smooth Taste and Lasting Moments. The caption is written in Swahili and English. It says this is Johnie Natembeya Premium made for those who lead and not for those who beg.

The post comes days after Ruto took on Senator Edwin Sifuna. The president reportedly said some leaders ask Kenyans for money to drink alcohol that has two names. Many people saw this as a hint at a popular whisky brand.

Ruto then visited Trans Nzoia and promised to continue with development projects in the county. He made the promise even though Natembeya openly opposes him. The governor appears to have answered with his whisky post.

The line about leading and begging is the sharpest part of the message. Natembeya presents himself as a leader. He suggests his critics are the ones asking for help. That flips the accusation back to the other side.

The post has gathered about 3300 reactions and 353 comments. It has also been shared 24 times. Many reactions are laughing emojis which shows supporters see it as good humour.

The bottle looks like a digital mock-up and not a real product. Still it shows how Kenyan politics now plays out through memes and viral posts. Both camps get attention from the exchange. The real dispute over development projects remains unresolved.
