HAPPENING NOW: Kenya Met Names Counties to Receive Heavy Rainfall From Today to This Date

The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has forecast rainfall in several parts of the country, with Nairobi and West Pokot among 38 counties expected to receive rain during the coming days.

The latest weather outlook, released on Wednesday, October 14, indicates that different regions will experience rainfall as Kenya progresses through the October-December (OND) rainy season.

Other counties expected to receive rainfall include Kiambu, Nakuru, Mombasa, Machakos, Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Embu, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kericho, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Lamu, Mandera, Meru, Migori, Murang’a, Nandi, Nyamira, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Siaya, Tana River, Tharaka-Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Turkana, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga and Wajir.

Residents in the affected counties have been advised to remain alert and follow official weather updates as conditions change throughout the forecast period.

The expected rainfall could benefit farmers by improving soil moisture and supporting crop growth during the ongoing planting season. It may also improve water availability for households and livestock in areas that receive adequate precipitation.

However, the forecast also raises concerns about possible flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and locations that have previously experienced heavy downpours.

Motorists and pedestrians have been urged to exercise caution when travelling during rainy conditions. Residents should avoid crossing flooded roads, rivers and other waterways, as water levels can rise quickly following heavy rainfall.

The weather agency has also warned Kenyans against seeking shelter under trees during thunderstorms because of the risk of lightning strikes.

Meanwhile, some parts of the country are expected to experience contrasting weather conditions, including high daytime temperatures and chilly nights.

The latest forecast comes amid preparations for the OND rainy season, which is expected to bring rainfall to various parts of Kenya.

Kenyans are encouraged to monitor subsequent weather advisories and take necessary precautions to protect their families, property and livelihoods.

The full weather update has also been highlighted in a Facebook post shared on the latest forecast, detailing the counties expected to receive rainfall.
