Africa Finance Corporation Appoints CBN Governor Yemi Cardoso As Board Chairman

According to a post shared on the official Instagram page of the Central Bank of Nigeria, @centralbankng, the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) has appointed the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, as the chairman of its Board of Directors.

In an announcement dated Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the corporation confirmed that Cardoso would succeed Ireti Samuel-Ogbu, who served as the immediate past chairperson. Samuel-Ogbu will, however, continue to serve as a member of the board.

The Africa Finance Corporation is an institution focused on providing infrastructure solutions across Africa.

According to the announcement, Cardoso brings extensive experience in international banking, investment management, economic policy and public sector leadership to his new position.

Since becoming CBN governor in September 2023, Cardoso has led monetary, financial-sector and institutional reforms aimed at restoring macroeconomic stability, strengthening policy credibility and rebuilding investor confidence in Nigeria’s economy.

His appointment places him at the head of the corporation’s board as it continues its work in supporting infrastructure development and economic growth across the African continent.

The announcement also recognised Samuel-Ogbu’s contributions during her tenure and confirmed that she would remain on the board as a member.
