Indian residents help Japan’s Kofu jewelry shine on world stage
KOFU — Indian residents in this central Japan city are helping bring “Kofu jewelry” to the world, working alongside local artisans. Most of the roughly 360 Indians living here come from the city of Jaipur, one of the world’s leading jewelry hubs. Many of them moved to the capital of Yamanashi Prefecture, home to a thriving jewelry industry, in the late 1980s, hoping to sell rough stones in Japan during the country’s bubble economy.
