Wrong-way driver arrested after Route 8 crash in Torrington

TORRINGTON, Conn. (WFSB) – A man was arrested after police said he was driving in the wrong direction on Route 8 in Torrington.

The driver was identified as Darwin Perez Toalongo, 27, of Torrington.

State police said the incident happened on Sunday at 3:50 p.m. along Route 8 northbound at exit 51.

According to police, Toalongo was driving southbound in the northbound lanes and collided with another car who tried to swerve out of the way.

Toalongo was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and driving on the wrong side of a divided highway.

He was released on a $5,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 23.
