Chiefs Announce WR Move After Tyreek Hill News

The Kansas City Chiefs are once again one of the best teams in the NFL, currently sitting at 4-0 heading into their bye week and one of three remaining undefeated teams in the league.

However, they do have holes, and one of them is at wide receiver. The Chiefs thought they had addressed the position with Tyquan Thornton, but he suffered a dislocated and fractured left ankle that will keep him out for at least three months.

Kansas City has been looking to the free agent market for answers, and the most exciting possibility has been a reunion with Tyreek Hill.

Hill spent the best years of his career with the Chiefs before leaving for Miami, and he is now a free agent after being released by the Dolphins in February.

Hill suffered a dislocated knee with multiple torn ligaments and has since undergone two surgeries, but he has made progress in his recovery and is targeting a return to the NFL in November.

His agent Drew Rosenhaus has mentioned plans to begin negotiating a deal with multiple teams, one of those being the Chiefs, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Kansas City is not waiting around on the Hill situation though. Instead, they have decided to add a familiar face in the meantime.

Head coach Andy Reid announced at practice Monday that the Chiefs have signed Justin Watson to the practice squad, with Thornton expected to be placed on injured reserve (h/t Nate Taylor of ESPN).

Andy Reid, following the Chiefs’ bye, said the team signed Justin Watson to the practice squad. Tyquan Thornton (left ankle) is expected to be placed on IR.Reid on Josh Simmons: “Josh was here all [last] week doing his rehab. They’ll be back tomorrow & I’ll have a better idea.”

Watson spent three seasons in Kansas City and totaled 1,064 yards and seven touchdowns operating mostly as the fourth wide receiver on the depth chart. He spent last season with the Houston Texans but was released at the end of preseason.

Now, he will look to get back into the NFL with Kansas City for a second stint with Kansas City. While signing Hill remains a possibility, the Chiefs are adding depth and looking for answers now as they navigate the wide receiver room without Thornton for the foreseeable future.
