Details Emerge Of Secret Night Meeting To Unite Uhuru, Kindiki, Gachagua And Kalonzo Before 2027

A closed-door night meeting of community elders has been convened to broker political unity among four key leaders. They are retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka are also in the mix.

The gathering comes amid deepening fractures in the Mount Kenya region and wider opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Elders from Mt Kenya communities have intervened several times in recent months. They first endorsed Kindiki as regional spokesperson at a large assembly in Kiambu. Disputes later emerged over the legitimacy of that endorsement.

Kalonzo has meanwhile stepped up outreach to elders in northern Kenya under his Ukombozi banner. Gachagua has dismissed rival elders as fake and presented himself as the authentic voice of the mountain.

Sources familiar with the talks say the session focused on bridging personal and political rifts. Kindiki has publicly called for Mt Kenya unity and rejected East and West divisions. Gachagua continues to challenge the Deputy President’s mandate.

Uhuru’s recent resignation from Azimio leadership has added urgency to the talks. So has Kalonzo’s role in rebranding the opposition as The Ukombozi Alliance.

The elders stressed the need for peaceful competition. They warned that continued rivalry risks inflaming tensions and weakening the influence of the region.

Participants reportedly noted that past leadership from the mountain under Jomo Kenyatta and Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru never produced such deep internal division.

The outcome of the meeting remains confidential. Public statements so far show little sign of immediate reconciliation among the four leaders.
