Gloria Orwoba Embarrassed in Front of Sifuna and Atwoli During Fred Machoka’s 50th Anniversary

Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba found herself at the centre of attention after her uncle, veteran broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka, called on security officers to remove her from the stage during his 50th anniversary celebration at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

The incident happened on Saturday, October 10, 2026, during the Machoka @50 Grand Concert, an event organised to celebrate five decades of Machoka’s career in broadcasting.

In a video circulating online, Machoka is heard telling security personnel, “Security, toa huyu msichana hapa,” as he expressed displeasure over what was happening on stage.

Reports indicate that the exchange followed Orwoba’s alleged participation in WANTAM chants during the celebration. Machoka appeared unhappy with the interruption and insisted that his work should not be disrupted.

The incident attracted attention because the celebration had brought together several prominent Kenyan leaders and entertainment personalities.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was among the notable guests. His arrival had earlier drawn loud cheers from the audience, with people chanting his name as he walked into the venue. He later greeted Machoka, and the two shared a hug.

Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli was also present. He greeted the veteran broadcaster and embraced him during the event.

Other prominent guests attended the celebration, which combined recognition of Machoka’s long media career with music and entertainment.

Congolese rhumba star Koffi Olomide headlined the advertised musical line-up, which also included Mbilia Bel, Cameroonian singer Sam Fan Thomas, Les Wanyika and Them Mushrooms.

Machoka, popularly known as Uncle Fred, has built a long career in radio and television, particularly through his Roga Roga programme, which has helped popularise African rhumba music among Kenyan audiences.

Although the event was intended to celebrate his professional milestone, the exchange involving Orwoba became one of the moments discussed after the footage circulated online. However, the video does not establish every detail of what led to the confrontation.
