During her 11 years career at the Ministry of Sports, Wasike was tasked with implementing the Sports Act and ensuring sporting entities conduct business legally.
It is a task that put her in constant friction with clubs and some federations, as officials seemingly struggled to comply with the requirements needed to be registered as officials of either clubs or federations.
Among her major achievements was the move to ensure that all federations are supported by the government, for international trips, through the Sports Fund on the condition that they have a registration certificate.
She also managed to streamline a number of federations that had been almost brought down by wrangles.
She ensured that Football Kenya Federation (FKF) held their elections in 2024.
On the flip side, she was accused of being too strict in implementing various aspects of the Sports Act.
Her latest trouble was with FKF Premier League champions, Gor Mahia, as she ordered the club to conduct fresh elections.
Further, she declared club chairman Ambrose Rachier ineligible to contest as he had already served the two terms under the sports act.
Gor Mahia went to court and obtained orders stopping Wasike from implementing her directive. The matter is yet to be resolved.
The Ministry has already initiated the process to identifying her replacement.
In a related development nine people have been interviewed to fill up the vacancy left after the retirement of former Director of Sports Jacktone Indakwa.
Among those interviewed are Deputy Sports Directors Douglas Ratemo and Beth Wamalwa.
Doreen Odhiambo, whose contract as Chief Executive Officer (CEO)at the Kenya Academy of Sports expires this month, has also attended the interview alongside former Anti-Doping Agency Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sarah Shibutse.
