Nearly 2 million meals from Iowa are set to be distributed across South Africa after receiving approval from health authorities
, Iowa —
Millions of meals from Iowa are now set to be distributed in South Africa after nearly a year of preparation.
Meals from the Heartland and Blessman International said their meals were approved by South African health authorities today.
In a release, officials say, “One shipment is on the ground in South Africa making its way to the Northeast Province of Limpopo, four additional shipments are currently in the water on their way to South Africa and the remaining one shipment is currently on its way to a United States port for its 8 – 10-week trip over the Atlantic.”
Nearly 2 million meals are expected to be distributed across the country this year.
In May, Iowans helped fill newly designed bags to be sent to the country. The meals crossed the Atlantic and arrived in South Africa after clearing customs.
