South Africa beat New Zealand to lead test series 2:1

South Africa’s rugby team defeated New Zealand 29:24 in the third test match in Johannesburg to take a 2-1 lead in the four-match series. The match took place on September 5 at Soccer City stadium in front of 87,976 spectators.

Four tries from each team

Both teams scored four tries each. Kurt-Lee Arendse, Jesse Kriel and Malcolm Marx scored for South Africa, while the hosts were also awarded a penalty try. The South African team trailed in the first half but fought back to secure victory.

New Zealand captain Ardie Savea scored two tries. Will Jordan and Samisoni Taukei’aho added one try each.

Series score

The victory was South Africa’s second in a row after its success in the second test match, held last weekend in Cape Town. New Zealand won the first match of the series, played in Johannesburg two weeks earlier. According to Channel NewsAsia, the four-test series is called Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry.
